In collaboration with the international horse transport company, we will coordinate and oversee every step of the horse’s transportation process while keeping you informed and involved throughout the entire process.
The successful export of a horse demands a comprehensive understanding of both the originating and destination countries' requirements.
Exporting a horse from one country to another is a complex process that requires meticulous planning including preparation and required documentation for the horse's travel, quarantine stage, and more.
To be able to travel, your horse must meet the requirements set by your country and we will handle all necessary arrangements, such as:
- Organizing a veterinary examination for a comprehensive health check-up by a licensed veterinarian, along with a vaccination review to ensure the horse has received all required vaccinations specified by the destination country
- Performing blood tests to screen for infectious diseases and obtaining all health certificates and other required veterinary documents
- Preparing customs documentation, including passports and export/import permits
- Arranging pre-and-post quarantine processes, if required by the destination country, and ensuring the horse meets all quarantine requirements
- Developing a travel plan with the horse transport company including schedule, routes, layovers, available airlines
- Planning for the horse’s nutritional and hydration needs during the journey and ensuring all necessary travel and safety equipment is provided
The quarantine procedure is a critical aspect to ensure that the horse does not introduce or contract any diseases and the specific requirements and procedures can vary based on the regulations of both the exporting and importing countries.
Generally, a horse may be required to undergo quarantine both before departure and after arrival.
Before going into quarantine facilities the horse will have passed all veterinary examination and testing and received all health certification and custom required documents, it is the last step before traveling to its destination country.
For countries requiring a quarantine period upon arrival, the horse will be placed in isolation and inspected by quarantine facility staff to ensure it shows no signs of illness or distress.
The duration of the quarantine period for both export and import processes depends on the regulations of the origin and destination countries, typically ranging from 2 to 30 days.
The horses will spend their quarantine time at specialized quarantine facilities where they follow strict biosecurity measures and approved by government veterinary authorities.
Your horses will travel with the best available airlines, accompanied by professional and qualified horse stewards who will care for your horse and ensure the best travel experience possible. Hay and water will be provided on every flight.
After the check-in procedure, the horse is loaded into specially designed equine travel crates that ensure comfort and safety during the flight. A final health check may be performed by airport veterinary staff.
Different travel options are available :
- ECONOMY CLASS / TRIPLE STALL : most cost – effective option; your horse will be accompanied by 2 other horses in the stall.
- BUSINES CLASS / DOUBLE STALL: your horse is accompanied by only 1 neighbour; therefore, the dividers of the third spot are re-arranged.
Other options can be made upon request.
Upon arrival, the horse is carefully unloaded from the aircraft and airport veterinary authorities will conduct an initial health inspection to check for any signs of illness or distress before beginning the post-quarantine process.
Depending on the destination country and arrival airport, some locations have specialized quarantine facilities equipped to handle the specific needs of horses, including isolation areas, veterinary care, and appropriate transportation logistics.
If these facilities are not available, the horse will be safely transported from the airport to a specialized quarantine facility approved by government veterinary authorities and then inspected by quarantine facility staff to ensure it shows no signs of illness or distress.
Throughout the entire process, you will be notified and kept updated, from the horse's arrival at the airport to its time spent in the quarantine facility until it is delivered to you.
